Strands isn’t your typical word search. Instead of just hunting random words, every puzzle has a theme tying it all together. The board is packed with letters, and your job is to use every single one of them to uncover the hidden words. By the time you’re done, the grid is completely filled, and the theme makes perfect sense.
You can drag through letters or tap them one at a time to form a word. Tap twice on the last letter if you’re using the tapping method to submit it. When you find a theme word, it stays on the board highlighted in blue. None of these overlap, which makes the solving process like fitting pieces into a puzzle.
Each game has one special word, or sometimes phrase, called the spangram. It stretches from one side of the board to the other and basically sums up the day’s theme. The moment you find it, the word glows yellow, and suddenly the rest of the board becomes much easier to figure out.
Not everything you type has to be a theme word. Extra words you discover still matter because every three of them earn you a hint. A hint might drop letters of a theme word onto the board, and if one is already active, it can even show you the letters in order. Sometimes that little nudge is exactly what you need.
